Chianti Classico Riserva, Organic wine, red, 2007, Buondonno
Chianti Classico Riserva, Buondonno, organic wine, Casavecchia alla Piazza An organic Chianti Classico Riserva, deep ruby red in color. Its full-bodied aromas are characterized by red and black wild berries with traces of cinnamon, leather and tobacco. Its tannins are clearly noticeable, its mouthfeel is very harmonious and pleasant, with a long, sustained finish. Can be drunk now and up to 2016.

Winemaking
Gabriele Buondonno only makes the Chianti Classico in especially good years. Only the best of the hand-picked grapes are used for this Riserva. They grow on a stony vineyard in which the yield is very small. The wine ferments for 20 days in stainless steel tanks and during this time it is recirculated several times so that the grape skins are always in the must. The biological acid reduction (malolactic fermentation) takes place in barrels made of Slovenian and French Allier oak. The wine was bottled in December 2008 and then was aged for 6 months in the bottles.

Organic Wine Estate Buondonno
Both Gabriele Buondonno and his wife Valeria Sodano are trained agronomists. Gabriele has been applying organic viticulture methods since 1988. Valeria teaches at the University of Naples. They redecorated the small organic winery, which as has been proven belonged to a nephew of Michelangelo, very tastefully, and made it habitable again. The Casavecchia alla Piazza winery is very close to Castellina in Chianti and has 20 hectares of vineyards in a prime location. The History Casavecchia alla Piazza appears on the “Capitani di Parte Guelfa” maps of 1549, where it is identified as the property of Lionardo Buonarroti, Michelangelo's nephew. It is appparent from the letters between the 74-year old uncle, who lived in Rome, and his nephew, that the estate had been bought by Michelangelo and the wine produced there had a good reputation even then. Thus Michelangelo wrote to Lionardo that “ I would rather have two barrels of Trebbiani than eight shirts,” and adds that he needed the wine as a gift for the Pope. e
